You'll also need
- Fabric with a distinct design - fabrics react differently in resin, watch our Resining Fabric tutorial to help you choose which will work best
- White cardstock, if you decide to back your fabrics as shown in the video
- Sharp scissors
- Paper towels
We've also made some lovely buttons with fabric scraps using our Silicone Cabochons Mold:
This technique is pretty easy and our Silicone Cabochons Mold has 6 different sized cavities ranging from 1/4" up o 2". By partial-filling I can literally make any size button I want! Cabochons are too thick to drill holes, so I'm using our Clear Button Backs instead. They are lightweight, durable, and washable! Just be sure you embed them well with resin all around for the best possible hold.
For all of the buttons above we embedded our Clear Button Shanks in the backs.
You can also collage other materials in layers. In this one I embedded a metal scissors charm with some red wire I shaped to look like thread:
Here are some other examples of cast buttons with a variety of items embedded:
And here are cast buttons made with some of our other molds, which have been drilled using different size drill bits, and can be sewn on.
